Soon after we got back from Israel and Dubai I went to Costco to refill our larders. One of the items that I had purchased was a 25lb bag of flour.
| BTW this is really great bread baking flour at an insanely good price. |
We usually get one about once a month or so. I had actually jumped the gun a bit on the flour and our usual storage spot for the 5 gallon sized bags that I decant the flour into was a little too full. My brain was a little fried from our experience being under rocket fire for two and a half days and I just didn't have the physical or mental energy to figure out what to do with the 25 lb. bag of flour. I left the bag of flour on one of our kitchen chairs
Well, a few days went by and the flour was still occupying the chair next to mine in the kitchen. One morning I came into the kitchen for breakfast and found that my husband had
turned the bag of flour into a doll? a puppet? using a stuffed plastic bag, a pair of gloves and a pair of slippers. We began to refer to the decorated bag of flour as Floury---our new favorite child. Each of our kids showed up at least once and got to see Floury in her glory in our kitchen
My husband and I are well matched in silliness. ( Soon after our youngest moved out leaving us empty nesters after ONLY 32 years I suggested that our really ratty broom could be tossed. My husband got sad and put googly eyes on the broom and added a ribbon---and Broomie was born. Broomie was part of our Zoom Shabbat dinners for more weeks than I care to admit. Oddly enough, Broomie made it easier for my husband to get used to living in a house with no kids)
After a few more days I made paper eyes and stuck them on Floury's face.
I sent this photo to my kids and told them that a miracle had occurred and that Floury was no longer blind. Luckily our kids are used to us and our usual antics and at least pretended to be amused.
My husband suggested that Floury greet trick or treaters so I moved her to the chair by the front door.
Today I came to the end of the last of the old flour and had to
cause Floury's demise. The big paper sack is in our paper recycling. The flour is all decanted into zipper bags and is put away.
But this still remains on the chair at the front door.

Similar silliness occurs at our home in Minnesota - we saved the constellation on our girls' bedroom ceiling and I told our grandsons that it was their Mom watching them...
