A gift

A gift VIEW SLIDE SHOW DOWNLOAD ALL The beautiful  pearls, a gift to me  from my daughter. She bought them for me at the pearl market in Beijing. My daughter bought me half a strand so I could make gifts for myself or for people I love. the dark beads glow red when light shines through them. Another gift was made today, but won’t be shared here.  Most of today was an exercise in frustration with various bits of technology being difficult, and otherwise behaving badly. A morning of Jewelery Repair

My husband had given me this lovely necklace as a gift several years back. It looks great on and I wore it anytime I needed to look dressed up. The necklace broke a couple of years ago. I felt terrible about it, and carefully sotred away all of the broken pieced of the necklace, but hadn't gotten around to repairing it. Today I took out my box of jewelery supplies and got to work. The beads are so large that it was quick work. I strung the necklace on coated wire and then crimped five beads on either end to hold the whole thing together. This nifty necklace was a Chanukah gift this year. The links are all made out of different types of chain. This necklace looks great worn as one long loop , looped around my neck tow or three times or even as a Y-shaped necklace. One of the links had fallen open and the clasp had fallen off. I reattached the clasp with new jump rings and repaired the broken chain with a smaller, finer jump ring.

I was hoping to go, but since the party was taking place during Passover, I would have loved to attend the party but given that it was Passover, I wouldn't have been able to eat anything. This was a serious food oriented party, so I declined. I did however make my friend a gift. and here it is.I will need to mail it out tomorrow. It is made out of foil lined glass beads, dyed black and white pearls.  It feels nice on. My friend is very pale and blond. I think that the light colors will look beautiful on her. Another friend, also someone I met from the world of sewing, is celebrating her birthday on Tuesday.I was invited to the celebration in Brooklyn. She has reddish hair, and the coloring that many red heads have. The necklace looks more casua lthan the first necklace, but is actually...
