Just a couple of weeks ago t was the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Sunday was Simchat Torah the day in the Jewish calendar when October 7, took place. Monday, our dear cousin who was visiting from Houston really wanted to go to the 9/11 memorial and the 9/11 museum. I had never been to either the memorial or the museum before. It just felt too raw to me given that we lived through the experience and breathed in that smoke for weeks and weeks. The museum brought up too many really difficult emotions and memories of that time. In thinking about this October 7, I had begun rereading the texts I had written to friends and family while we were in our son Aam's saferoom in Ashkelon where we spent the first two and a half days of the war. Ashkelon is about seven miles from Gaza. We could just see Gaza from our son's balcony. These photos of the sky taken in the days before October 7.
