If you came by today to see what I am cooking for Shabbat dinner, I am sorry to disappoint you. We are eating at a friend's to celebrate Tanta Marcia's birthday. I did make two chicken for the birthday dinner. They were made at the same time as the chicken below but have been in suspended animation in our freezer since last Friday. I delivered the chickens to our friends' apartment. They live in what is known locally as a "post war" apartment, that is, post WWI. I noticed the lovely tile floor as I waited for the elevator outside of their apartment. The tile shapes are bog-standard. The color of the tiles and the the herringbone ground give these tiles a medieval flavor. There was a a big revival of medieval style in the post WWI years. The lobby floor is in a similar theme but in a more rusticated form. Tanta Marcia's celebrations continue tomorrow and I made some focaccia for tomorrow's lunch. (Some is actually an understatement.)
