One of my favorite things to do is to go through a drive through car wash. Unfortunately, my husband and I only rent cars and my husband thinks that taking a rental car to a car wash is just plain stupid. No, I don't drive otherwise I would have indulged myself.
But Amarillo roads produce lots of road schmutz. Amarillo is also a place where people take pride in their cars. My son's car was in desperate need of a wash and he was kind enough to delay his visit to the car wash until my arrival.
It was an excellent experience.
Yesterday after doing a couple of loads of wash in the cleanest and most helpful laundromat I have ever experienced, we went off to the museum at Amarillo College. We were the only visitors. We got to see the Amarillo Biennial.
The artists are all Texas based. There was lots of creativity on display. I took photos of some textile related works.
This landscape rendered in traditional American hand weaving patterns was pretty spectacular. If you want I can go on a rant about the tension between the enforced grid of the woven patterns vs. the curvilinear nature of the natural landscape. But I leave that to the art critics.
I loved the mix of hand and machine work on this wall quilt. Being here in Texas, the landscape just feels right. There is a detail below of the hand stitching.
I share the photo below because it reminds me of the work of my friend
Efrat Baler Moses
Efrat creates art work that is a fusion of painting and sculpture.and.is as clever and thought provoking as Efrat is herself.
Today we venture south to Lubbock.
The carwash was an excellent experience? I laughed. Now I must revisit my thoughts about that because it has been unpleasant to me. I will work on my attitude. Perception. Textiles speak to me and I love your comments about them and art and sewing. Oh, and cooking! Thank you
ReplyDeleteA Carwash is like a small safe carnival ride. I could go every day.
