Our son is letting dear friends from Israel stay in his apartment for several days. Our son is currently in Amarillo. We won't be here while his friends are here so we handed off the keys today to their daughter.
We walked across Central Park on a perfect fall day.
As we walked East we could hear the cheers for the marathon runners.
I held onto my husband's jacket and when he decided it was safe to dash across the street without hurting any runners. We made our move .We ran across the street and didn't harm anyone. We kept walking east and then did the key hand off.
We had to repeat the operation of dashing in front of the marathon runners on our way back home.
We walked home back through the park. Because we weren't having to meet someone at a particular time, I could take the time to take pictures of the foliage.

It's hard to believe that we were just a few minutes from traffic filled streets.

Your unidentified plant might be Japanese Lanterns.
ReplyDeleteThank you Claire. I had thought that might be the name. Thanks for letting me know for sure.
DeleteSuch lovely fall pictures! I have long marveled at the foresight of folks to designate Central Park as green space ...and KEEP IT. When we moved to our current city 45 years ago, there was a downtown park with a pond. But the city has chipped away at it...adding an Art museum, then adding on to the museum...enlarging the parking garage...adding a hotel....now the green space is a fraction of what it was when we first came. Which is sad. Kudos to New York for avoiding the development of Central Park!
ReplyDeleteCentral and Riverside Parks have been described as "the lungs of the city". Luckily New York was developed during the era when the robber barons wanted to give back. Our walk on Sunday was through some of the more northern and wild paths that truly feel like a walk in the country. Further south has more of a formal garden feel with the baseball fields inbetween.
