Our itinerary for this trip (starting out in one city and flying out of another) has created some complications. I don't have to bore you with them and I am grateful to my husband for figuring out how to make all of this work.
But we needed to return our rental car to LAX and then get ourselves to Santa Barbara. My husband explored a few options but the best and most convenient way taking the airport shuttle between LAX and Santa Barbara.
I loved this old control tower at the airport. It looks like it would take off into the air if it weren't tethered to the ground.
We ran into a fair amount of traffic.
Eventually, we began to see the ocean
Seeing the ocean from a bus window reminds me of all of the trips that I have taken from New York to Boston along Route 95.
Of course, the California coastline is more dramatic than the Connecticut shoreline but the glimpses of sea always feel like home.
The mountains around Santa Barbara have become deeply familiar over time.
Yesterday I did much of the cooking for a gathering of our Santa Barbara clan.
There were other dishes as well. We realized today that we were so in the moment with the gang that we neglected to take any photos.
so
The family gathering took place in my brother in law's back yard that is ringed with citrus trees.
One of the trees is something of a mystery. The lemons are round and lumpy.
The pitch is thick and sweet. The fruit is tart.
Each time I visit I cook with these lemons. This year I think that I finally convinced my brother in law of the excellence of this variety of lemons
I have found that a wedge of this lemon in a mug of hot water tastes as if it has honey added. My breakfast the past few days has been a cut up lumpy lemon cooked with some nuts in the microwave. I had tried to use Google Lens to identify this lumpy variety of lemons but to no avail.
Today, my husband and I went for a walk in a nearby park. The park consists of paths that wind around a hill. The views were spectacular.

No matter where I go I like good shadows
We drove home to a wonderful sunset.

Your lemons remind me of bush lemons . . . sometimes these have very thick skin and pith with not much flesh. Best wishes.
