There are times when a photo, not even of people but a particular image can make me recall a specific time and place and the people who I was with, with more clarity than a photo of actual human beings.
Sunday I got together with a group of my college buddies. Some I hadn't seen in about thirty years. One I had seen within the last decade. Others I hadn't seen since I graduated from college in 1982.
We ate. We went for a walk where we encountered this crabapple tree.
We looked at old photos. We went though our college yearbook and remembered friends, both living and dead. We talked and talked and ate some more.
What we didn't do was take photos. Perhaps this harkened back to our days together when none of us, even those who loved photography had a camera that always lived in our pockets.
So my old friends and I communicated as we did in our youth, no selfies, no group shots. We did however, pay attention to what each one of us was saying.
Whenever I see this photo,
I will remember the day and my friends.
