My friend Michah is involved with an amazing art space in Jersey City. The space had been an industrial plant in a previous incarnation . Michah and his associates had at first used it as a storage space. They discovered that artists were using the spaces as studio spaces. They decided to transform the space into a multifaceted arts destination. You can read more about it here. Today, there was an opening so there was bus service from a gallery in the meat packing district to Jersey City.
The bus started out along the West Side Highway.
We arrived in Jersey City not very long later.
Downstairs there was a video installation the blurred the lines between video and paintings.
This series more than evoked Monet's water lilies.
We saw a fabulous collection of Richard Meier models.
You just have to admire the obsessive detail that goes into building these models.
Lots of the art was pretty wonderful. I do realize though that I took very few pictures of art. I was enchanted by this wall of inks in a silk screening studio.
Mostly though, I was blown away by the views from the windows. The late afternoon winter light on the industrial landscape was intoxicating.
I just loved how the bridge glowed orange.
After the bus dropped us back in the meat packing district we walked back to the IRT subway on 14th Street.
On the way there we passed this.
Do you have any guesses about what this grand building is???
We decided to go inside. It was open.
Pretty amazing, isn't it?
Maybe this will give you a better idea of what this building is.
This former bank is now a CVS pharmacy.
This is a pretty classy place to buy Tylenol.
